"Tell me, what's going on, God?
How long do I have to live?
Give me the bad news!
You've kept me on pretty short rations;
my life is string too short to be saved.
Oh! we're all puffs of air.
Oh! we're all shadows in a campfire.
Oh! we're just spit in the wind.
We make our pile, and then we leave it.
What am I doing in the meantime, Lord?
Hoping, that's what I'm doing- hoping
You'll save me from a rebel life,
save me from the concept of dunces.
I'll say no more, I'll shut my mouth,
since you, Lord, are behind all this.
But I can't take it much longer.
When you put us through the fire
to purse us from our sin,
our dearest idols go up in smoke.
Are we also nothing but smoke?
Ah, God, listen to my prayer, my cary- open your ears.
Don't be callous;
just look at these tears of mine.
I'm a stranger here. I don't know my way-
a migrant like my whole family.
Give me a break, cut me some slack
before it's too late and I'm out of here."
Psalm 39:4-13 (MSG)
Life is but a passing moment.
It's not about the amount of good deeds you have done, nor is it about the countless times you were credited as a "hero" to others. It's about the impact that you have made in their lives.
You think there's so much time to spare, yet when you glance at your watch, you think again.. not so much time now, is there? Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You.. If you were to suddenly take off, would you be happy with how things are being left behind? Friendships, relationships with your parents, school, unsolved matters, etc.
Paramore's "my heart" goes like this, "I am finding out that maybe I was wrong, that I've fallen down and I can't do this alone." and it parallels David's heart cry in Psalms 39, "What am I doing in the meantime, Lord? Hoping, that's what I'm doing- hoping You'll save me from a rebel life,". We often try to fix things with the best of our abilities, wisdom and knowledge, and also with our own strength to find that in the end, we are in need of a strength greater than ours. It could be a friend, parent, sibling, or significant other. There's always the hunger to have someonebeside us at all times, and at the same time it's a comforting thought. Though we proceed to do things at our own will and strength, we see that we sometimes fail, and sometimes we succeed. But most of the time, if not all the time, I find that I need His wisdom, His strength, and His knowledge in doing things. It's time that you do things His way, and not your way. Life is too short for all the temporary "hu-has" that happens almost every hour. It's the call to obedience, and to trust the Creator of it all!
